Maine Recovery Council Public Input Process

Public Forum: Thursday, November 2, 2023 9am-1pm

Jewett Hall, University of Maine Augusta

46 University Drive, Augusta, ME 04330

OUR GOAL:

The Maine Recovery Council is seeking input from the public about what they see as top priorities for the opioid settlement funds. The Council’s work is to investigate the statewide needs for fighting the opioid crisis in Maine and to plan for distributions throughout the state of certain funds from legal settlements or bankruptcies to address the opioid crisis, including to 1) prevent opioid addiction; 2) prevent and reverse opioid overdoses; and 3) help Maine citizens recover from addiction. The Council is established pursuant to court order and 5 M.R.S.A. §. 203-C.

THREE WAYS TO PROVIDE INPUT:

There are three ways to provide your input to the Maine Recovery Council:

1. In Person Public Forum: The Maine Recovery Council will hold a public forum at The University of Maine at Augusta, in the Auditorium of Jewett Hall on Thursday, November 2nd, 2023 from 9AM-1PM. The Council will stay late enough to hear from all those that arrive before 1pm. When you arrive, please sign in and testimony will go in order of sign-in.

Each person will be asked to speak respectfully and will be given 3 minutes. At the 3-minute mark the Chair will thank the person for sharing and give members of the council an opportunity to ask questions. Please submit written copies of your testimony to the Council at time of hearing, or via email to info.recoverycouncil@maine.gov. In preparing testimony, written or not, make sure you introduce yourself, identify where you reside, and, if you represent an organization, give the name of the organization, and provide your thoughts on top priorities for the opioid settlement funds.

Agenda of the In Person Forum:

  • 9:00 am: Welcome & introduction of Recovery Council members
  • 9:15 am: Procedures and guidelines for the public forum
  • 9:20 am: Testimony begins
  • 1:00 pm: Sign-up to testify closes
  • TBD: Forum ends

2, Written Testimony:

You may submit written testimony to the Council, either instead of speaking at the public forum, or in addition to speaking via email at info.recoverycouncil@maine.gov.

3. Respond to the Survey:

The Maine Recovery Council is also accepting input via a statewide survey. The survey will be accepting responses until November 2nd, 2023 at 5PM and can be found at: https://qualtricsxmfwms54hzt.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bvI9ghpc2SWNQjk

SPREAD THE WORD:

Please help the Recovery Council to hear from members of the public who may have valuable perspectives or important information by sharing this notice or distributing the survey link.

REMOTE VIEWING:

For members of the public who wish to view the public forum remotely, but not participate, please use the following:
