Welcome new students
and
Welcome Back to all of you who are returning.
Let's Make this an Amazing Year!
From President Mingo's Desk
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the spring semester at Washington County Community College. Our faculty and staff are excited to begin the learning process with you this semester. We hope you had a wonderful holiday season with loved ones and are returning full of energy, enthusiasm, and excitement around your educational journey. I certainly know that we are looking forward to starting the semester strong and helping you to accomplish your dreams!
Our campus employees are committed to your success! The Teaching and Learning Center for Excellence, located on the second floor of Riverview Hall, is a collection of free programs and services designed to support students at WCCC. Perhaps you have done some reflection over the break and are now more determined than ever to take advantage of all the amazing opportunities that WCCC has to offer you to support your success. If that is the case, I encourage you not to delay and to start strong. Reach out to the Center and set aside time to talk with faculty and staff about your needs. They will help you build a plan for success this semester.
Winter in Maine can be long, but it doesn’t have to be with all the fun outdoor activities you can enjoy either on or off campus. Our Outdoor Adventure Center is stocked with equipment to enjoy the beautiful natural resources of our region. Exercise and activity support your learning, and I encourage you to stop by during hours of operation to see what the Center has to offer for free to students. There are ice skates, skis, snowshoes, ice fishing equipment, and more. Stop by and meet our student workers Sam and Ethan to learn more.
Research shows that being engaged on your college campus supports your connection, sense of belonging, growth and development, and persistence toward graduation. There is no time like the present to become more involved on campus, either inside or outside the classroom. Join an organization like Student Senate, openings are still available, come to one of the upcoming JV Club Basketball games, participate in a student engagement event, get outside, and enjoy the winter activities, spend some time with one of our knowledgeable tutors supporting your classroom learning, make a stronger connection with your faculty advisor or a member of the campus student services staff. We all care about your success and are ready to assist.
I have confidence in your ability to succeed as a student at WCCC both academically and in the co-curricular experiences offered. Make sure to avail yourself of the full college experience by making strong connections with your faculty members, participating in events on our campus, and engaging in all WCCC has to offer our students. Enjoy your WCCC campus and take advantage of what we offer to assist with your learning, development, and success!
To our new students welcome and to our returning students, welcome back! Let’s have a great semester together!
